Casting News for US Version of "Bad Girls"

Back in late January, Deadline reported that NBC picked up the pilot for Bad Girls, a female prison drama that is based on the UK hit of the same name. The drama will follow "the ins-and-outs of a group of unlikely women in a federal prison: a scandalous female warden, her new protégé and a host of inmates — some mothers, some friends — who struggle with loyalties to people on the inside and the outside."

Today, Deadline is reporting on some casting news for the pilot. Amy Smart (Rat Race and Crank) and Karolina Wydra (Crazy, Stupid, Love.) have signed on. Smart will play "the perfect blond Barbie doll from Orange County" who is in prison after stealing a credit card from her friend and maxing it out while Wydra will be playing "a scheming, sultry inmate."

I have seen several episodes Bad Girls (1999 - 2006) and I even own the first season on DVD (it's a shame that the other seasons haven't been released in the US). From what I've seen, it's a great show, but the US version will not work because it's going to air on NBC. I feel that NBC will tone it down quite a bit and won't even be able to feature some storylines that are in the UK version which is why it would've been better if HBO had picked it up. It would be nice if I'm proven wrong when the pilot airs, but unfortunately, I don't see that happening.
