Is a Sequel to "Twins" in the Works?

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Universal is looking to make a sequel to the 1988 film Twins. The plan is to reunite the two stars of the film, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito, and feature another actor who would play a third brother...Eddie Murphy.

For anyone who doesn't remember, Twins is about a man (Julius) who finds out that he has a long lost twin brother (Vincent) who was placed in an orphanage after they were conceived through an experiment. He goes out to find his brother and when they reunite, they go on a search for their mother. The sequel would be about the two men discovering that they have a brother.

The film is currently titled Triplets, but it's in the very early stages which means that no director is attached and there is no script either. Ivan Reitman directed the 1988 comedy and would return for the sequel as a producer.

This sounds like an early April Fool's Day joke. I'm actually hoping that it is a joke because I don't see this sequel working if it turns out to be true.

Update: Chloe Moretz Accepts Lead Role in "Carrie"

UPDATE: Chloe Moretz tweeted that she has accepted the lead role in Carrie.

"Never been so happy in my life! Thank you Kim Pierce and thank u MGM for the chance of a lifetime i will never forget!"

Original story below:

MGM and director Kim Peirce (Boys Don't Cry) have offered Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass and Let Me In) the lead role in the upcoming remake of the 1976 film Carrie which is based on the 1974 novel written by Stephen King.

The 1976 horror film is about a shy high school student named Carrie (played by Sissy Spacek) "who is raised by a nightmarish religious fanatic mother, and comes to grip with devastating telepathic powers just as she reaches puberty. She eventually uses those gifts for lethal means when fellow classmates use the prom as an excuse to humiliate her before the entire school in a parable about bullying."

Spacek earned an Oscar nomination for her role as did Piper Laurie who played Carrie's mother. Other cast members included John Travolta, Nancy Allen and Amy Irving.

It is being said that after the studio closes the deal with Moretz, the search will begin for an actress to play the mother. Names are already being tossed around which include Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore.

Official Trailer for "Mother's Day"

The final trailer for Mother's Day has been released. The movie is loosely based on the 1980 Troma flick Mother's Day.

The horror film was directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and written by Scott Milam. It stars Rebecca De Mornay, Jaime King, Shawn Ashmore, Patrick John Flueger, Briana Evigan and Deborah Ann Woll.

Look for it on Blu-Ray/DVD on May 8th.

From the film's official website:

"After a bank robbery gone wrong, three brothers head for home...only to discover that their mother has lost the house in a foreclosure. The new owners and their guests, gathered for an ill-timed birthday party, become the brothers' unwitting hostages. Their mother and sister arrive, and it'll soon become obvious that Mother will do absolutely anything to protect her children. In one terrifying evening, Mother brilliantly takes control of the situation and masterminds her sons' escape. Sides will be taken, secrets revealed, and sins punished as the hostages struggle to make it through the night."

Movie Recommendation of the Week: "Feds" (1988)

My movie recommendation of the week:

Feds (1988)
Directed by Daniel Goldberg

From IMDB.com: "Ellie DeWitt and Janis Zuckermann are admitted to the very strict FBI Training Academy. They get a hard course, in which they learn to deal with guns and to recognise crimes. They also get a physical training. It appears that Ellie is a real fighting- machine, in contrast with Janis, the great student. They have to help each other, 'cause only when they pass all the tests, they are allowed to join the FBI."

Feds is a feel good 80s comedy that while predictable, it's also funny and entertaining. Great chemistry between Rebecca De Mornay ("Ellie") and Mary Gross ("Janis") and of course, that's very important for a successful buddy movie. Why it hasn't been released on DVD/Blu-Ray yet is beyond me. I would love to add it to my collection.

Mega Shark is Coming Back!

The Asylum, a film production and distribution company, is bringing back Mega Shark for a third installment featuring the creature going up against a mechanical enemy called Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark.

According to The Asylum partner Paul Bales the Mega Shark franchise has a "rabid" following:
"The fan response to the Mega Shark franchise has been rabid. In addition to a very persuasive online petition, we found that Mega Shark has taken on a life of her own. We’ve received photos of Mega Shark cakes, toys and games on a near-daily basis, and we thought it was high time she did battle with an iconic Mecha monster."
The first film, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (2009), had a successful run on the SyFy channel and the trailer racked up over 2.5 million views within the first week of its release. The next film, Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus (2010), also had a successful run on SyFy. Both films also saw success in the international market.

Casting for the movie will begin later this year.

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift wrote the screenplays for Freddy vs. Jason and the remake of Friday the 13th. Well, it's been announced that the two are developing a new horror movie for Paramount Pictures. The plan is for them to write and direct the film.

No mention of the story as it's being kept under wraps, but apparently it'll contain a high school setting.

Movie Recommendation of the Week: "21 Jump Street" (2012)

My movie recommendation of the week:

21 Jump Street (2012)
Directed by Phil Lord & Chris Miller

From RottenTomatoes.com: "In the action-comedy 21 Jump Street, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier - and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind"

I had my doubts about this movie when I heard it was going to be made, but those doubts started to fade away after seeing the trailers and reading very good reviews about it, so I decided to check it out on opening day and I'm glad I did because this movie was laugh out loud hilarious. The movie doesn't take itself seriously and even pokes fun at itself and other remakes. Channing Tatum really impressed me with how funny he was and hopefully, he'll do more comedy. Tatum and Jonah Hill had great comedic chemistry and they played off of each other well. This is one that I'll be buying when it's released on Blu-Ray/DVD. Oh yeah, make sure to keep an eye out for cameos by some cast members from the television show.

"Leprechaun" to Get the Reboot Treatment

It is being reported by Variety that Lionsgate is going to reboot the 1993 movie Leprechaun.

While the studio is looking at a release sometime in 2013, no writer, director or cast have have been announced as of yet.

The original movie starred Warwick Davis as Leprechaun and Jennifer Aniston as Tory Reding.

This project is being called a reboot and not a remake. Is there a difference and if so, what is the difference? I feel that Chud.com has a good article about the subject and even defines the terms which I'll post here.

Remake: A straight re-telling of a story for the purpose of updating it for a contemporary audience, or making it accessible to a different culture or region.

Reboot: A course correction done with the purpose of restarting a franchise. A reset. Fealty to the original story or film is not a priority.

Re-Imagining: A re-telling of a story, but only in the broadest sense. Characters and some story elements may be retained, but mostly plot and story have been repurposed.

Update: Rodrigo Santoro Will Return as Xerxes for "300: Battle of Artemisia"

UPDATE: ComingSoon.net has confirmed that Santoro will be reprising his role as Xerxes in 300: Battle of Artemisia.

The film is expected to " tell, in part, the story of Greek General Themistocles, who lead Athens against Persian invaders in a battle that played out simultaneously with the Battle of Thermopylae (depicted in the first film)."

No release date has been set.

Original story below...

The sequel to 300, 300: Battle of Artemisia, is set to begin shooting this summer. It will star Eva Green (Dark Shadows and The Dreamers), Jamie Blackley and Sullivan Stapleton. Rodrigo Santoro is in talks to reprise his role as Xerxes.

During a press tour for his latest movie, Heleno, Santoro talked with Collider.com's partner site Omelete. During the interview, Santoro confirmed that he was in talks to reprise the role of Xerxes and he even gave some details about the sequel.

When asked about the script, Santoro said that it featured the backstory of Xerxes, but that it will be "very quick." He then mentioned that the sequel is set to take place during the same time of 300.
"The movie is set at the same time. The idea is to show another point of view. While that battle from the first 300 is taking place, there were others going on…Actually, it’s all of this and then there is an intersection point with the first movie. It goes back and then goes beyond that. That was the initial concept."
It has to be said that the script that Santoro read was an early script and things could have changed, but he's still in talks, so Xerxes will play some part in the sequel.

Official Trailer: "Dark Shadows"

The official trailer for Dark Shadows has been released. The film, directed by Tim Burton, stars Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Chloe Grace Moretz and Helena Bonham Carter.

Dark Shadows will be released on May 11th.

Synopsis via GeekTyrant.com:

"In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet--or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy...until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles. Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth's ne'er-do-well brother, Roger Collins, (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger's precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David's new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote."

"Piranha 3DD" Gets Release Date!

Dimension Films have announced that Piranha 3DD will be released in theaters on June 1st, 2012!

Despite the fact that it'll go up against Snow White and the Huntsman opening weekend and Prometheus the following week, I think it'll do just fine. It's a movie where one can sit back, relax and enjoy a movie that I'm expecting to be a blast just like the first one and that's why I'll be there opening weekend.

Synopsis:
"Having awoken from their spring break extravaganza at Lake Victoria, the swarm heads upstream where they look to make a meal out of Big Wet, a local water park where when it comes to fun, nobody does it wetter! Thought they came to get wet, get loaded and get some, the staff and patrons get more than they bargained for when they must face the fiercest, most bloodthirsty piranhas yet. Lead by the strong-willed, studious Maddy and her friends, Barry and Kyle, the trio must dive in and take on these man-eating creatures using every ounce of their being...but can they be stopped?"

Warner Bros. Interested in "The Dark Tower"

A while ago, Universal passed on the opportunity to bring Stephen King's The Dark Tower to the big screen as a trilogy. After being turned down, Ron Howard, who was set to direct, and producer Brian Grazer were determined to get the film made and now, it looks like Warner Bros. is interested in making it happen.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. is close to closing a deal that will keep Howard on as director and Grazer as producer. Akiva Goldsman has written a script which not only did Warner Bros. buy, but they hired Goldsman to polish it up a bit. When Howard and Grazer went to Universal with the idea, Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men) was set to star as the gunslinger Roland Deschain. As of now, it appears that he's still attached to the project.
"The Dark Tower is about the last living member of a knightly order of gunslingers, with Deschain becoming humanity’s last hope to save civilization as he hits the road to find the Dark Tower. Along the way, he encounters characters, good and bad, in a world that has an Old West feel."

Movie Recommendation of the Week: "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" (2011)

My movie recommendation of the week:

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
Directed by Rupert Wyatt

From RottenTomatoes.com: "A single act of both compassion and arrogance leads to a war unlike any other -- and to the Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The Oscar-winning visual effects team that brought to life the worlds of Avatar and Lord of the Rings is breaking new ground, creating a CGI ape that delivers a dramatic performance of unprecedented emotion and intelligence, and epic battles on which rest the upended destinies of man and primate."

Stunning visual effects, a good story, lots of action and great acting (especially Andy Serkis as "Caesar") makes this my movie recommendation of the week. I wish I did go see it when it was in theaters because I would've liked to see it on the big screen, but what can you do? One thing I didn't like was the love story between James Franco and Freida Pinto. I found it unnecessary and I didn't feel any chemistry between them, but that's just a minor complaint and didn't interfere with me enjoying the film.

The Garbage Pail Kids are Coming Back to the Big Screen

It is being reported by Deadline that another feature film based on The Garbage Pail Kids is being developed.

Michael Eisner and his company, The Tornante Company, will be financing and developing the movie. In 2007, Eisner bought the card company that was first published in 1985 by Topps.

Directing the movie will be PES and Michael Vukadinovich will be writing the script. It'll be produced by Toby Ascher.

PES is an award winning creator of short films. Some of his shorts include Roof Sex and Western Spaghetti. His latest work is entitled Fresh Guacamole. You can watch his short below...

For anyone who didn't know, a feature film based on the Garbage Pail Kids was released in 1987 called The Garbage Pail Kids Movie. The movie is horrible and creepy, but it's a movie that has to be watched because of how bad it is! You don't believe me? Watch the trailer below...

Movie Recommendation of the Week: "Man Hunt" (1941)

My movie recommendation of the week:

Man Hunt (1941)
Directed by Fritz Lang

From IMDB.com: "British hunter Thorndike vacationing in Bavaria has Hitler in his gunsight. He is captured, beaten, left for dead, and escapes back to London where he is hounded by German agents and aided by a young woman."

After watching Fritz Lang's M (1931) and Fury (1936), I wanted to watch more of his films which is what led me to checking out Man Hunt (1941). This WWII flick is a great thriller that is wonderfully directed by Lang. The film moves at a good pace and towards the end, it features a tense standoff between Thorndike (Walter Pidgeon) and Major Quive-Smith (George Sanders) where a twist is revealed that I wasn't expecting. Reading some reviews, I saw that many people had a problem with the war propaganda ending, but I didn't really have a problem with it.

While it's not my favorite film from Lang, that honor goes to M, it's still a great film and that's why it's my movie recommendation of the week.

Script for a Third Bill & Ted Movie is Complete

Both Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have confirmed that the script for a third Bill & Ted movie is completed.

Reeves confirmed the news to The Independent:

"Yeah, we have a script. We're trying to put it together. It's a good script too."
Winter tweeted the news:
"-Script done? Check. -We love it? Check. -Green light? Working on it!"
While it's not sure what the exact plot for the movie will be, Reeves did give some details in April 2011.

"When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn't happened. So they've now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there's an element of time and they have to go back."

Casting News for US Version of "Bad Girls"

Back in late January, Deadline reported that NBC picked up the pilot for Bad Girls, a female prison drama that is based on the UK hit of the same name. The drama will follow "the ins-and-outs of a group of unlikely women in a federal prison: a scandalous female warden, her new protégé and a host of inmates — some mothers, some friends — who struggle with loyalties to people on the inside and the outside."

Today, Deadline is reporting on some casting news for the pilot. Amy Smart (Rat Race and Crank) and Karolina Wydra (Crazy, Stupid, Love.) have signed on. Smart will play "the perfect blond Barbie doll from Orange County" who is in prison after stealing a credit card from her friend and maxing it out while Wydra will be playing "a scheming, sultry inmate."

I have seen several episodes Bad Girls (1999 - 2006) and I even own the first season on DVD (it's a shame that the other seasons haven't been released in the US). From what I've seen, it's a great show, but the US version will not work because it's going to air on NBC. I feel that NBC will tone it down quite a bit and won't even be able to feature some storylines that are in the UK version which is why it would've been better if HBO had picked it up. It would be nice if I'm proven wrong when the pilot airs, but unfortunately, I don't see that happening.
