Sequel to "Machete" Moving Forward

Robert Rodriguez is moving forward with the sequel to his 2010 action flick Machete. He will be teaming with Alexander Rodnyansky, who will produce and finance the movie.

Rodriguez talked about Machete and the upcoming sequel:

"The fan response to the Machete character has been fanatical since his first appearance. Machete is truly a super hero and Machete Kills will be bigger and more ambitious than the first time."
The sequel will be titled Machete Kills and production is hoping to begin in April. Danny Trejo is currently in talks to reprise his role as Machete and I fully expect him to return. Rodriguez is saying that he anticipates much of the original cast will return for the sequel. It should be noted that a trilogy had been planned, so don't be surprised when news of a third movie is announced.

Here is the story for the sequel, thanks to Deadline:
"The new film finds Machete recruited by the U.S. Government for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. Machete must battle his way through Mexico to take down a madman cartel leader and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. Machete takes on an army in an effort to dismantle a plan for global anarchy."
Machete was filmed on a budget of $10.5 million and ended up grossing $44 million worldwide.
