'Dog the Bounty Hunter' Canceled

TMZ is reporting that A&E has decided to cancel Dog the Bounty Hunter after eight seasons.

Despite the fact that the two parties were in negotiations for season nine, the network made the decision to cancel the show due to "creative differences."

While there may not be any new episodes, don't be surprised if the show lives on through reruns and marathons on A&E. Something else is telling me that Duane and Beth Chapman might possibly try to go to another network. I could see that happening and I wouldn't be surprised.

Grey's Anatomy Season 8 Finale: My Opinion

WARNING: This post will contain spoilers from the season 8 finale, so if you haven't seen it, don't read any further unless you want to be spoiled.

Last night was the season eight finale of Grey's Anatomy and just like millions of others, I watched knowing that something bad was going happen. You see, it's been known for a while that someone on the show was going to die and that the person would be a beloved character, so when fan favorite Lexie Grey (played wonderfully by Chyler Leigh) didn't survive her injuries from the plane crash early on in the episode, I knew people were going to be upset and pissed off. During and after the show, fans of the show/character took to Twitter to express their anger, especially towards the show's creator Shonda Rhimes. I'll talk about that later in the post, but first, I want to express my opinion about the season finale in regards to the death of Dr. Lexie Grey.

Despite Lexie's death and the episode ending on a major cliffhanger, I really enjoyed the season finale. I cried. I laughed. I cried some more and when a show can make me tear up or even cry, it's a good thing. More importantly, it made me think. Life can and does change in an instant. Everyone has experienced something that changed their life in an instant. I know I have and last night's episode reminded me of that because it can and, most likely, will happen again. It makes me want to tell everyone who is important to me just how much they mean to me because I'd hate for one of those life changing moments to occur and someone not knowing how I exaclty felt about them.

As I said earlier in this post, people were upset about Lexie being the one to die and it's okay to express those feelings on Twitter and/or Facebook. I, myself, was upset. What isn't okay is to take to those social networking sites and write things directed at Rhimes such as "fuck you", "I hate you" and even saying that she needs to be punched in the face. People are angry and I get that, but there's no reason for some of the reactions by viewers/fans. That's my opinion and I know people are going to disagree with it and that's fine because not everyone is going to feel the way I do.

After the west coast airing, Rhimes tweeted a statement regarding the season finale. In the statement, she confirmed Lexie's death and the departure of Teddy Altman (Kim Raver). She made it clear that her decision to kill off Lexie wasn't an easy one and I don't doubt her. What makes me feel better about it is that her decision was not based on any bad blood between Rhimes and Leigh, but instead, it was a mutual decision that they came to after a long and probably emotional discussion.

You can read her full statement below:

"Okay. Callie said it best tonight: Life changes in an instant. Turns on a dime.

This finale was incredibly hard to write. I did not enjoy it. It made me sick and it made me sad. We end the season not knowing ANYTHING about the future. Except for two things. We know we are definitely saying goodbye to two of my favorite people: Chyler Leigh (Lexie) and Kim Raver (Teddy).

I know this season’s finale had some surprises for viewers and the exit of Kim Raver was one of the big ones. But Kim’s series option was up and she was ready to give Teddy Altman a much-needed vacation. It’s been a pleasure working with someone as talented and funny and kind as Kim; everyone is going to miss her terribly. I like to imagine that Teddy is still out there in the Grey’s Anatomy universe, running Army Medical Command and building a new life.

I love Chyler and I love the character of Lexie Grey. She was an important member of my Grey's family. This was not an easy decision. But it was a decision that Chyler and I came to together. We had a lot of thoughtful discussion about it and ultimately we both decided this was the right time for her character's journey to end. As far as I'm concerned Chyler will always remain a part of the Shondaland family and I can't wait to work with her again in the future.

I'd write more but I'm honestly too sad. I don't like life changing in an instant and turning on a dime.

Thanks for watching Season Eight. We are, as always, grateful that you joined us for the ride."

To Shonda Rhimes, thank you and I'll be there for the season nine ride.

This is all I can handle for now. Most likely, I'll write up another post concerning the rest of the characters in the season finale and what I think will happen in season nine.

Movie Recommendation of the Week: "Footloose" (1984)

My movie recommendation of the week:

Footloose (1984)
Directed by Herbert Ross
Starring: Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer, John Lithgow, Chris Penn, Sarah Jessica Parker and Dianne Wiest

From IMDB.com: "A city boy comes to a small town where rock music and dancing have been banned."

Footloose may not be my favorite Kevin Bacon film, but I'm pretty sure that it would be in my top five (I might have to make a list and post it). Good acting and dancing and an a great soundtrack makes this cheesy, but awesome 80s flick worth watching. I love the 80s!

Trailer for "God Bless America"

From the film's official website: "Frank (Joel Murray) has had enough of the downward spiral of American culture, which he sees as overrun with cruelty, stupidity and intolerance. Divorced, recently fired, and possibly terminally ill, Frank truly has nothing left to live for. But instead of taking his own life, he buys a gun and decides to take out his frustration on the cruelest, stupidest, most intolerant people he can imagine—starting with some particularly odious reality television stars. Frank finds an unusual accomplice in a high-school student named Roxy (Tara Lynne Barr), who shares his sense of rage and disenfranchisement, and together they embark on a nation-wide assault on our country’s dumbest, most irritating celebrities.

Written and directed by taboo-busting filmmaker and comedian Bobcat Goldthwait (Shakes the Clown, Sleeping Dogs Lie, World's Greatest Dad), GOD BLESS AMERICA a truly dark and very funny comedy for anyone who’s had enough of the dumbing down of our society."

Below is the red band trailer for the film, so it's meant for mature audiences only as it contains explicit language and violence.

The film will be released on Blu-Ray and DVD on July 3rd. It will have a limited theater release this Friday (May 11th) and since I highly doubt it'll be released where I live, I'll just have to wait patiently until I can buy it on July 3rd.

Movie Recommendation of the Week: "How to Die in Oregon" (2011)

My movie recommendation of the week:

How to Die in Oregon (2011)
Directed by Peter Richardson

Synopsis via the film's official website"In 1994, Oregon became the first state to legalize physician-assisted suicide. As a result, any individual whom two physicians diagnose as having less than six months to live can lawfully request a fatal dose of barbiturate to end his or her life. Since 1994, more than 500 Oregonians have taken their mortality into their own hands. In How to Die in Oregon, filmmaker Peter Richardson gently enters the lives of the terminally ill as they consider whether – and when – to end their lives by lethal overdose. Richardson examines both sides of this complex, emotionally charged issue. What emerges is a life-affirming, staggeringly powerful portrait of what it means to die with dignity."

How to Die in Oregon just might be the most powerful and heartwrenching documentary I have ever seen. I saw it on Saturday and two days later, I'm still thinking about it. No matter how one feels about the Death with Dignity Act or physician-assisted suicide, which is now legal in three states (Oregon, Washington State and Montana), I would highly encourage everyone to watch this documentary and listen to these terminally ill people as they tell their stories, their struggles and the way they process the possibility of ending their life with dignity on their own terms and not on the terms of the terminal illnesses that's killing them. From the beginning of the film to the end, I was incredibly moved and I'm not ashamed to say that there were lots of tears, so if you do see it, have some tissues with you because you're going to need them.
