On April 6, 2012, "Titanic" (1997) will be re-released worldwide in 3D. The release will mark the 100th anniversary of when the Titanic set sail on April 10, 1912.
The film is the second highest grossing movie of all-time and won 11 Academy Awards that included Best Picture and Best Director.
Overseeing the 3D conversion will be James Cameron (wrote, produced and directed the film) and Jon Landau, Cameron's Lightstorm producing partner.
Here's what Cameron had to say in a statement:
"There's a whole generation that's never seen ‘TITANIC’ as it was meant to be seen, on the big screen. And this will be ‘TITANIC’ as you've never seen it before, digitally re-mastered at 4K and painstakingly converted to 3D. With the emotional power intact and the images more powerful than ever, this will be an epic experience for fans and newcomers alike."
The sinking of the RMS Titanic is one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history. The passenger liner hit an iceberg on April 14, 1912 on its maiden voyage and sank the following morning, which resulted in 1,517 deaths.
