Best in Film: The Greatest Movies of Our Time
On March 22nd, ABC aired a special called Best in Film: The Greatest Movies of Our Time. ABC collaborated with People Magazine to come up with an online poll to give movie fans a chance to voice their opinion on their favorite movies in 15 different categories. Voting began in November of 2010 and ended in January of 2011. Over 500,000 votes were cast.
The list of nominees were chosen by industry experts, which included actors, critics, producers and directors. All of the films are English-language, so no foreign films were included.

I have several problems with this list, but I'm only going to mention a couple or else I'd be here for a while and I'm too tired at the moment.
First, I have a problem with the Best Western category. Maybe it's just me, but I would've liked to see The Wild Bunch (1969) and/or The Searchers (1956) in the top five.
Second, Forrest Gump as the Greatest Film Character? Seriously? What about Vito Corleone? Darth Vader? Rocky Balboa? I could name other characters that I feel would rank higher than Forrest Gump, but I better stop at three.
What do you think of the list?

I find it funny that the best animated film is a complete forgery of a 60's anime called Kimba the White Lion and I bet none of the voters even knew that. It's good to know mediocrity goes far.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, Forrest Gump sucks too.
I remember hearing something about that years ago, so thanks for reminding me because I had forgotten about it. I now want to check out that anime.
