"Dumb and Dumber 2" to Begin Production in September!

It's being reported over at ComingSoon.net that at a press junket for The Three Stooges, Peter Farrelly said that production on the sequel to Dumb and Dumber will begin in September. He even says that the two stars from the original, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, will return to reprise their roles as Lloyd and Harry.

"We're getting set to shoot 'Dumb and Dumber 2' in September," he says. "It's the first sequel we've ever done and we've got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back."

Farrelly goes on to say that a sequel is something they've always wanted to do and while Daniels was all for it, Carrey was too busy. However, that all changed with a phone call from Carrey.

"...So we've always wanted to do a sequel and finally Jim called up. Jeff always wanted to do it. We always wanted to do it. Jim was busy, but he called and said, 'We've got to do this thing again.' He had just watched 'Dumb and Dumber' and he said, 'This is the perfect sequel. Let's do it.'"

I really hope this isn't an April Fool's joke because I would love to see a sequel, especially with Carrey and Daniels on board.

Farrelly Brothers Developing "Dumb and Dumber" Sequel

Peter and Bobby Farrelly have begun the move to developing a sequel  to Dumb and Dumber (1994). They are hoping to bring back both Jim Carrey (Lloyd Christmas) and Jeff Daniels (Harry Dunne). The Farrelly brothers will most likely direct the sequel. As for who will be writing the script, Sex Drive (2008) co-writers Sean Anders, he also directed the movie, and John Morris have been hired to do so. The original producers from the movie, Charles B. Wessler, Brad Krevoy and Steve Stabler, are signed on for the sequel.

The original was filmed with a $16 million budget and it was a huge hit grossing over $250 million worldwide.

It's exciting to read that the Farrelly brothers have moved onto the sequel since they've finished with their latest project, The Three Stooges (2012), but I'm not getting my hopes up too much until both Carrey and Daniels sign on for the movie. Only then will I be really excited. There is hope with Carrey joining the project because while he was promoting Mr. Popper's Penguins, he mentioned this little tidbit about the possibility of a sequel, "We're talking about maybe returning to some old characters that everyone has been asking about...There's Bruce Almighty and we're talking about maybe another Dumb and Dumber." So, maybe there is hope that this sequel will work.

Dumb and Dumber Sequel Could Happen

Bobby Farrelly, half of the Farrelly brothers (Peter being the other half), spoke to Moviehole at the Hall Pass junket and mentioned that a sequel to 1994's Dumb and Dumber could happen.

“[Dumb and Dumber] has run a bunch of times on TV in the states, and kids will come up and they’ll be able to quote lines from that – lines that I’ve long forgotten. If we could get those two guys back together, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels that might be a worthwhile sequel – and that ball is in motion. We’re starting to think about what those two dimwits would be doing twenty-years later in life, and hopefully we’ll be able to come up with something worthy of a sequel."
I love Dumb and Dumber and would welcome a sequel if Carrey and Daniels agree to be a part of it, but a big part of me thinks that's not going to happen, so I'll save my excitement for when/if it's officially announced.

While on the subject of Dumb and Dumber, here are a couple of my favorite scenes:
