Trailer and Synopsis for "Rubber" (2011)

Thanks to Infini-Tropolis, I learned about a film that's going to have a limited released on April 1, 2011 (will be available On Demand starting February 25, 2011). The film is called "Rubber" and here is the synopsis from the film's website:

RUBBER is the story of Robert, an inanimate tire that has been abandoned in the desert, and suddenly and inexplicably comes to life. As Robert roams the bleak landscape, he discovers that he possesses terrifying telepathic powers that give him the ability to destroy anything he wishes without having to move. At first content to prey on small desert creatures and various discarded objects, his attention soon turns to humans, especially a beautiful and mysterious woman who crosses his path. Leaving a swath of destruction across the desert landscape, Robert becomes a chaotic force to be reckoned with, and truly a movie villain for the ages. Directed by legendary electro musician Quentin Dupieux (Steak, Nonfilm), aka Mr. Oizo, RUBBER is a smart, funny and wholly original tribute to the cinematic concept of "no reason."

Yep, you read that right, "Rubber" is about a tire that kills. I'm sure there are some out there thinking that it's can't be real (I was one of them, at first), but I'm telling you, this is a legit film as it has already had showings at numerous film festivals around the world that included France, Germany and Finland.

Will I be seeing it? Absolutely! After viewing the trailer, I have to see this movie! It looks like it's going to be one of those movies that's so bad in a hilarious and weird way, it's good.

Check out the trailer for yourself:

I picked out two snubs right away: Mila Kunis not being nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for her performance in "Black Swan" and Christopher Nolan not being nominated in the Best Directing category for "Inception". I'm sure there are more, but those are the two that caught my eye first. On the plus side, it's nice to see "True Grit" get some love after being completely shut out at the Golden Globes.

First Strike Map Pack for CoD: Black Ops

On February 1st, the First Strike map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops will be available for download on the Xbox 360. The cost will be 1200 Microsoft points. The map pack will be available on March 1st for those who have the game for the PS3, Wii or PC.

The map pack will consist of five new maps. Of these maps, four will be multiplayer maps and the other is a zombie map called Ascension. The names of the four multiplayer maps are Kowloon, Discovery, Berlin Wall and Stadium. Apparently, no footage has been released of the zombie map, but what is known (thanks to CoD: Black Ops Blog) is that it takes place in an abandoned Soviet cosmodome where you come across some new enemies, but you also get some new weapons (Matryoshka Dolls and the Gersch Device or “Black Hole Bomb”) and perks (Stamin-Up and PhD Flopper). Information about the weapons and perks have not been made available, as far as I know, but that will be found out soon enough.

Check out the video for information concerning the four multiplayer maps:

Two New Images From "The Hangover, Part II" (2011)

A few days ago, two new images from "The Hangover, Part II" were released. I'm going to post them here, but before I do, I want to warn everyone that the images could contain spoilers for those who want to go into the movie knowing as little as possible or at least until the trailer is released because I'm pretty sure the trailer will show many spoilers.

I posted the first official image and synopsis back in November, so I'll include the link for those who have yet to see it and would like to check them out. I feel that this image doesn't contain spoilers as it's just a group shot of the four stars at the airport.

"The Hangover, Part II" is slated for release on May 26, 2011.

Who's Playing Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises?

Anne Hathaway, that's who.

She has landed the role of Selina Kyle (AKA Catwoman) in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises", which is slated to be released on July 20, 2012.

Here is a portion of the statement from Warner Bros. courtesy of Deadline.com:

BURBANK, CA, January 19, 2011 - Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises." She will be starring alongside Christian Bale, who returns in the title role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Christopher Nolan stated, "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story."

To be honest, I think her being cast as Catwoman can work. Nolan chose Heath Ledger to play The Joker in "The Dark Knight" and it turned out to be a great choice, so I trust his judgement in casting Hathaway. Of course, I'll save my actual judgement for when I see the film next year.

Hathaway did have competition as some of the actresses also up for the part included Rachel Weisz, Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley. I don't think would have had a problem with any of them getting the part if Hathaway didn't.

The statement also revealed the villain Tom Hardy ("Inception") will be playing and that villain is Bane. To be honest, I'm surprised that Bane was chosen as the villain, but it's an interesting choice and I'm looking forward to see how it turns out.

Poster and Trailer for "Hobo With a Shotgun" (2011)

In 2007, "Grindhouse" was released, which featured two full-length films: "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof". In between the the films, fake trailers were played: "Machete", "Werewolf Women of the SS", "Don't", Thanksgiving" and "Hobo With a Shotgun". First, "Machete" (starring Danny Trejo) was made into a full-length feature film and now, "Hobo With a Shotgun" is getting the same treatment.

The movie directed by Jason Eisener, he also directed the trailer for "Grindhouse", and stars Rutger Hauer ("Sin City" and "Blind Fury"). The synopsis from the film's Facebook page:
"A train pulls into its final station and a Hobo hops from a freight car. He has dreams of a fresh life in a new city, but finds himself trapped in an urban hell instead. A city where criminals rule the streets, landlords evict single mothers in the middle of the night, and where the city's crime boss, The Drake, reigns supreme with his sadistic, homeless-killing sons, Slick & Ivan. Through the chaos, the Hobo comes across a shop window displaying a second hand lawn mower and a shotgun, and decides it's time to cut the grass, make the city beautiful and start a new way of life. But after witnessing the brutality that encompasses this city, he realizes the only way to make a difference in this place is with a gun in his hand and two shells in its chamber. "
Eisener announced on the film's website that the world premiere will be at the Sundance Film Festival, which runs from January 20th to the 30th. While there is no official release date after the Sundance premiere, it's expected to be sometime later this year and I can't wait because "Machete" turned out to be a blast to watch and I expect the same with "Hobo With a Shotgun".

Check out the trailers (the first will be the fake trailer from "Grindhouse" and the second will be the real trailer), but note that both trailers feature some language and graphic/violent images:

Jean-Claude Van Damme To Join "The Expendables 2"?

According to GeekTyrant, it's looking that way, but only under one condition and that is if Steven Seagal isn't involved in the sequel as stated by director Sheldon Lettich.

Most know that Jean-Claude Van Damme was offered a role in the first film, but turned it down due to the role not being big enough. Personally, I think Van Damme should and will take a role in the sequel, especially if he's to be a villain. I, also, think he should've taken the role in the first one and it was a little disappointing to hear that it was a no go. Hopefully, he will be confirmed as part of the cast soon.

Concerning Steven Seagal, I really don't see him joining the cast since Lettich also said that he (Seagal) was asked to film a cameo in "The Expendables", but turned it down due to "a few bad experiences" between him and Avi Lerner, who produced the film. I'm not saying that I wouldn't want to see him do a cameo because I would, I just don't think it's going to happen. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, though!

2011 Golden Globes

This Sunday, January 16th, the 2011 Golden Globe Awards will air on NBC. While some of the nominations are a joke, I'll DVR the show and fast forward to the categories I'm interested in seeing.

First, let's take a look at the main categories.

Best Motion Picture - Drama
"Black Swan"
"The Fighter"
"Inception"
"The King's Speech"
"The Social Network"

I'd love to see "Black Swan" win, but I think "The Social Network" will win.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama
Halle Berry - "Frankie and Alice"
Nicole Kidman - "Rabbit Hole"
Jennifer Lawrence - "Winter's Bone"
Natalie Portman - "Black Swan"
Michelle Williams - "Blue Valentine"

I'd like to see Natalie Portman win and I think she will on Sunday because her performance was amazing.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama
Jesse Eisenberg - "The Social Network"
Colin Firth - "The King's Speech"
James Franco - "127 Hours"
Ryan Gosling - "Blue Valentine"
Mark Wahlberg - "The Fighter"

While Jesse Eisenberg could win, I'm thinking it's going to be between Colin Firth and James Franco. I'm going to say that Colin Firth wins.

Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical
"Alice in Wonderland"
"Burlesque"
"The Kids are All Right"
"Red"
"The Tourist"

Shocked to see "The Tourist" in this category since I can't see it being a comedy or musical, more action/thriller to me, but what do I know? Anyways, I see "The Kids are All Right" winning.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical
Annette Bening - "The Kids are All Right"
Anne Hathaway - "Love and Other Drugs"
Angelina Jolie - "The Tourist"
Julianne Moore - "The Kids are All Right"
Emma Stone - "Easy A"

Annette Bening takes it.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical
Johnny Depp - "Alice in Wonderland"
Johnny Depp - "The Tourist"
Paul Giamatti - "Barney's Version"
Jake Gyllenhaal - "Love and Other Drugs"
Kevin Spacey - "Casino Jack"

I think Johnny Depp will win for "Alice in Wonderland".

Now, let's take a look at some of my predictions for other categories.

For Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, I see it coming down to Mila Kunis ("Black Swan") and Amy Adams ("The Fighter") with Adams winning despite the fact that I would like to see Kunis win.

For Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture, I see Christian Bale winning for "The Fighter".

"Toy Story 3" will win for Best Animated Feature Film.

I think David Fincher ("The Social Network") will take home the award for Best Director - Motion Picture.

For Best Screenplay - Motion Picture, Aaron Sorkin ("The Social Network") will win. I would like to see Christopher Nolan win for "Inception", though.

As much as I'd like to see "The Walking Dead" take home the award for Best Television Series - Drama, I see either "Mad Men" or "Dexter" winning. Hopefully, I'm wrong.

"Modern Family" will walk away with the Golden Globe for Best Television Series - Comedy or Musical. If it doesn't win, I'll be shocked.

Of course, I didn't mention all of the categories, so if you want to look at the list of nominations, the link is listed below.
http://www.goldenglobes.org/nominations/

It's time to move on and give some examples of why I think some of the nominations or lack of nominations are a joke. For one, "True Grit" didn't earn one single nomination and I felt that it was one of the best films of 2010, yet "Burlesque" was nominated. Second, Barbara Hershey should have been nominated for supporting actress for her performance in "Black Swan" as Portman's controlling mother. Those were the first two big snubs that came to my mind. Another one that comes to mind is that Leonardo DiCaprio wasn't nominated for his performance in "Inception", which I thought he deserved.

I'll end this with a few questions for you. Will you watch this Sunday? What are some of your predictions? Any films/actresses/actors/tv shows get snubbed or shouldn't have even received a nomination? Let me hear your thoughts.

Blu-Ray/DVD Releases I'm Looking Forward To...January 2011 Edition

"Buried" (2010) - January 18, 2011

Plot: A U.S. contractor working in Iraq awaks to find himself buried alive in a coffin. With only a lighter and a cell phone, he must find a way out before it's too late.

Cast: Ryan Reynolds and Samantha Mathis

I haven't seen this yet, but I've heard good things about it and I think it's going to be worth a blind buy.

"Hatchet II" (2010) - February 1, 2011

Plot: After escaping from killer Victor Crowley, Marybeth returns to the swamp with others in order to recover the bodies of her family members and get her revenge.

Cast: Danielle Harris, Tony Todd and Kane Hodder

This is another movie I have yet to see, but seeing as I thought the first one was fun and over the top, I expect the same from the sequel. Also, I anticipate it to feature lots of blood and gore since there is a rumor that about 120 or more gallons of blood were used compared to 55 gallons that were used in the first movie.
